Many parents have busy schedules and last minute changes are inevitable.  Therefore, drop-ins are welcome with a NOTIFICATION by a phone call to the program staff before the program day begins.

Medical and Health Information

The ECC Summer Program is sensitive to the health and physical needs of children, therefore the following policies have been adopted:

The parent must have current emergency information and a health enrollment form on file for each child.

1.     It is the parent’s responsibility to keep the program informed of any changes in their child’s emergency, medical, behavioral, or physical condition.

2.     In case of serious illness, the staff will follow parental instructions on the health enrollment form whenever possible; however in all cases staff will deal with serious emergencies in the most expedient way.

3.    If an emergency situation occurs and staff is unable to locate the parents or an “emergency”, staff will secure appropriate treatment at the nearest medical facility.  If a major injury or illness is involved, the child will be transported by ambulance to a designated site and/or physician.

4.    In all cases of injury or illness, attempts will be made to contact parents immediately and involve them in the decision regarding treatment.

5.    Medications can only be administered by the director or assistant director.  Medication must arrive in the original container.  Parent permission to administer must be documented in writing.

6.    When you are notified that your child is ill, they must be picked up within thirty minutes.  Please plan appropriately for another form of care.

Site Emergency

In the event of an emergency or natural disaster, the following procedures will be in effect:

1.     Children will remain at the site until they can be picked up by the parent or other authorized person.

2.     In the event of a site evacuation, children will be taken to a local emergency center.  The location will be posted on the site door.

3.    ECC Summer Program staff will remain with the children until they are picked up by the parent or other authorized person.

Guidelines on Discipline

When inappropriate or unacceptable behavior is exhibited, staff will deal with the individual or individuals.  If necessary, “time outs” will be used to help the child gain self control.  Self control, self esteem, and respect for the rights of others will be highly encouraged.  Corporal punishment is prohibited in all circumstances.

1.     Children will follow all program rules.

2.    All property of the church and program will be respected.

3.    Fighting (including hitting, biting, kicking, spitting, and name calling) will not be allowed.

First Offense . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . verbal warning

Second Offense . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  time out

Recurring problems will be discussed with parents, guardians, and program personnel to obtain a possible solution to the problem.

If behavior problems persist, a child may be suspended from the program.  If a temporary suspension does not bring about satisfactory improvement, the child may then be removed from the program permanently.

Nutrition

The ECC Summer Program will provide a nutritious snack in the morning.  Parents are responsible for sending a sack lunch with their child.  Each child will be assigned a day to send an afternoon snack.  It is the responsibility of the parent to inform the staff if their child has any food allergies.  Morning Snack will be served at 9:00 am, lunch at 12:00 pm, and afternoon snack at 2:00 pm.

Transportation

Transportation to and from the ECC Summer Program is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.  The program cannot transport students in personal vehicles after the program ending time.  Parents must have signed permission slips on file before their child will be allowed to participate in special off premises activities.

Sign-In/Sign-Out

Attendance will be kept on all children who attend the program.  Children must be signed in and out of program.  Children enrolled in the ECC Summer Program are to be signed in and out by the parent, guardian, or approved authorized person in the evening.  When a child does not attend on a scheduled day, the staff site person must be notified by the parent/guardian by calling the director at       .

Communications

Involvement of parents in the program is essential.  Cooperation with all policies and procedures is basic.  Take some time to talk to the staff about your child and ask your child about the program each day.  You can also volunteer to help with the program and to offer your special talents.  Any trouble your child may have at home may affect his/her behavior at the site.  Please keep us informed of such problems so we can be sensitive to your child’s needs.  The staff would like to work as a team with the family.

Activities

Although no two days are identical, the staff will try to establish some routine to the daily activities.  The order can be changed by the site staff.  Each week, a schedule will be given to parents/guardians with approximate times for field trips, library, and pool.  Each afternoon (except pool days), students participate in Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) and journal time.

Late Payment

Failure to pay on schedule is cause for removal from the program.  Contact with the parents will be made if payment is late by two weeks.  A $5.00 fee per week will be added to accounts two weeks late or more.

Miscellaneous

The ECC Summer Program is not responsible for lost, stolen, or broken items.  Expensive or unique items should be left at home.
